Every executed trade is classified based on whether the aggressor was a buyer (lifting the ask) or a seller (hitting the bid). Delta is calculated for each candle as Delta = Aggressive Buy Volume - Aggressive Sell Volume.

Cumulative Volume Delta (CVD) is the running cumulative sum of this delta over time. If CVD is rising, aggressive market buyers are dominating. If CVD is falling, aggressive sellers are in control.

Comparing Spot CVD against Perpetual Futures CVD provides an institutional edge. If Futures CVD is surging higher (leveraged traders FOMOing long) while Spot CVD is flat or declining, the rally is built on fragile leverage rather than genuine organic accumulation, making it prime for a liquidation flush.

The most powerful market moves occur when Spot CVD and Futures CVD are rising in unison. When they disagree, trust Spot CVD—organic spot buying always wins over leveraged futures bets.
